The BBA HAPAS approved fill and overband system trusted by local authorities across Wales and the South West. One pass. Permanent repair. Potholes prevented before they start.
Every highway engineer knows the story. A hairline crack appears in the road surface. Water gets in. Freeze-thaw cycles widen it. Within months, it becomes a pothole. The reactive repair costs ten times what the preventative treatment would have cost — and it fails again within weeks.
SWARCO ECO TexBand Solo breaks that cycle. It is a hot-applied, screed-delivered fill and overband system that permanently seals cracks, joints and seams in a single pass. Applied at the right time — when the crack first appears — it prevents water ingress, stops deterioration in its tracks, and extends the serviceable life of the road by years.
This is not a temporary patch. It is a BBA HAPAS certified permanent repair system (Certificate 16/H250), independently tested and approved for use on the UK trunk road and local authority highway network. It is specified in the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW), Series 700, Clause 711.
Roman Road Marking are trained and approved TexBand Solo installers. The system can only be installed by contractors who have completed SWARCO Hitex's approved training programme. Our crews are certified to deliver TexBand Solo across all 16 areas we serve — from Newport and Cardiff to Bristol and Gloucestershire.
TexBand Solo is a thermoplastic fill and overband crack repair system manufactured by SWARCO Hitex (formerly Hitex Traffic Safety). It is designed for the permanent repair of open seams, joints and cracks in bituminous and concrete highway surfaces.
The material is loaded into a pre-heater and raised to between 160°C and 190°C until fully homogeneous. It is then poured along the prepared crack using a screed box applicator — simultaneously filling the crack and producing a sealed overband up to 200mm wide in a single pass. The result is a smooth, skid-resistant, waterproof repair that is ready for traffic once cooled.
Simple overband — for cracks up to 5mm wide. The material is screeded directly over the crack to create a waterproof seal.
Fill and overband — for cracks, seams and joints up to 40mm wide. The material fills the void and produces a sealed band over the top in one operation.
Cracked road surface is identified and assessed. Crack width, depth and extent are recorded. Existing road markings, ironwork and road studs are masked.
The surface is cleaned with a hot compressed air lance to remove debris, dust, moisture and loose material from the crack and surrounding area.
Pre-heated TexBand Solo material is applied using a 40mm screed shoe to fill the crack, followed by a 150-200mm shoe to overband and seal completely.
Visual inspection confirms a smooth, defect-free repair. The surface cools and is opened to traffic — typically within 15 minutes of application.
Constrained maintenance budgets mean every pound counts. TexBand Solo allows highway teams to treat hundreds of metres of cracking in a single shift — preventing expensive pothole repairs, reducing reactive callouts and extending the life of existing road surfaces. Multiple Welsh local authorities have adopted TexBand Solo as part of their planned maintenance programmes after seeing the results on their networks.
For classified road networks, TexBand Solo's BBA HAPAS certification and MCHW compliance make it a straightforward specification. Single-pass application means shorter road closures, less traffic management and faster programme delivery.
Reinstating road surfaces after utility works or construction requires a durable, compliant solution. TexBand Solo seals utility trenches, construction joints and reinstatement edges to prevent premature failure — helping developers and utilities meet their reinstatement obligations.
Roman Road Marking has delivered TexBand Solo crack repair programmes for local authorities across South Wales including Newport, Cardiff, Torfaen, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire and Bridgend. The feedback from highway engineers has been consistently positive — crack sealing that stays sealed, road surfaces that last longer, and maintenance budgets that stretch further.
We combine TexBand Solo crack repair with our full range of highway crack infill and joint repair services, as well as thermoplastic road marking, road stud installation and marking removal — delivering a complete highway maintenance package in a single mobilisation.
Traditional crack sealing methods often use cold-applied sealants that lack the durability and skid resistance of TexBand Solo. TexBand Solo is a hot-applied, BBA HAPAS certified system that fills and overbands in a single pass, delivering a permanent repair with independently verified skid resistance. It is a preventative treatment designed to extend road life, not a temporary fix.
Yes. TexBand Solo holds BBA HAPAS Certificate 16/H250 and complies with the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW), Series 700, Clause 711. It is approved for use on trunk roads and local authority highway networks across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
TexBand Solo is classified as a permanent repair system. Durability depends on traffic volume, surface condition and location, but when applied correctly to suitable defects, repairs are expected to last the remaining serviceable life of the road surface. This is significantly longer than cold-applied or temporary patching methods.
No. TexBand Solo must only be installed by contractors who have been trained and approved by SWARCO Hitex. Roman Road Marking is a certified TexBand Solo installer — our operatives have completed the manufacturer's approved training programme and are experienced in delivering the system across highway environments.
As a simple overband, TexBand Solo repairs cracks up to 5mm wide. As a fill and overband system, it repairs cracks, seams and joints up to 40mm wide with band widths up to 200mm. For larger defects, other repair methods may be more suitable — contact us and we can advise on the best approach for your site.
TexBand Solo can be opened to traffic once it has cooled to 35°C, which is typically around 15 minutes after application. This means minimal road closure time compared to many alternative repair methods.
